The Google Quantum AI team has demonstrated the world’s first algorithm with verifiable quantum advantage, which they call Quantum Echoes. This breakthrough was made possible by their Willow quantum processor, which ran the algorithm 13,000x faster than one of the world’s fastest supercomputers. Their Quantum Echoes algorithm computes an Out-of-Time-Ordered Correlator (OTOC) and can be cross-benchmarked and verified by any other quantum computers or by nature. This marks the first time a quantum computer has successfully run a verifiable algorithm that surpasses the ability of classical supercomputers.
